PCYC Bateau Bay unveils new multi-sport courts for the community

The Central Coast community now has more opportunities to get active, with PCYC Bateau Bay officially opening two new multi-sport courts on October 9, offering basketball, netball and pickleball.
PCYC NSW CEO Michael Silman said the courts provide a place for young people to get active and connect with their community.
“At PCYC NSW, we believe every young person deserves access to safe, inclusive spaces that support wellbeing and belonging. The redevelopment has transformed a previously unusable space into modern, accessible and high-quality courts that will encourage increased community participation, physical activity and social connection.”
To ensure cost isn’t a barrier for those wanting to get involved, PCYC will open the courts free of charge every Wednesday from 2:30pm to 6pm for casual drop-in sessions.
PCYC Bateau Bay Club Manager Stacey Chant said the new courts will also have a positive impact on the club’s life-changing youth programs.
“We want every person who comes through our doors to have access to physical activity and a sense of community. The new courts give us more space to engage young people through our Wednesday community court time and free fitness and mentorship program, Fit for Life, helping participants build confidence, capability and positive relationships.”
The 17-month project was made possible through $218,401 in funding from the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants Program, alongside a $366,298 co-contribution from Central Coast Council, bringing the total investment to $584,699.
Central Coast Mayor John McNamara said the new sporting courts at Bateau Bay will provide more opportunities for young people and families to get active, connect and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
“PCYC does incredible work supporting young people across the Central Coast, and these new facilities will give more local children and families the opportunity to stay active, build friendships and be part of a positive community environment,” Mayor McNamara said.
“Investments like these help create healthier and more connected communities and make a real difference in local families and young people.”
