PCYC Outreach Programs Supporting Communities In Need

Young people in communities without a local PCYC club are benefiting from the life-changing impact of the Fit for Life program thanks to dedicated PCYC staff and NSW Police Youth Engagement Officers, as demand for PCYC youth programs continues to grow across the State.
PCYC City of Sydney is delivering the latest outreach program, bringing Fit for Life to Redfern Oval twice a week for more than 30 participants in South Sydney.
Club Manager James Lambert said the initiative is crucial to ensuring young people have access to physical activity, mentorship and a sense of belonging through PCYC, regardless of their postcode.
“They are a remarkable group of young people who benefit from a consistent, supportive, and safe environment, and we are proud to provide that for them. We know positive relationships and healthy habits can have a lasting impact on a young person’s future,” said James.
“The activities we run have been specifically designed to cater to individual needs and interests. Participants thrive when provided with opportunities for choice, creativity, movement, and social interaction on their own terms.”
Fit for Life participants are also served nutritious meals, prepared by PCYC staff and NSW Police Youth Engagement Officers, and transported to school.
Outreach programs enable PCYC to expand its impact beyond club walls, connecting with more young people across NSW in partnership with NSW Police Youth Engagement Officers.
A powerful example of the program’s impact can be seen in the experience of Club Manager James Lambert’s daughter, Olivia, who is now pursuing a Master of Social Work after volunteering with the South Sydney outreach programs and discovering a passion for supporting young people.
“With the right environment, consistent support, and opportunities to thrive, these young people can become the very best version of themselves,” said Olivia.
