PCYC NSW launches fitness challenge fundraiser to help young people

PCYC NSW is calling on supporters and fitness fans to take part in a fun five-day fitness challenge during COVID lockdown, to help young people who need it most.

The Fit5 Funraiser challenge has been created as part of PCYC NSW’s emergency appeal. The money raised will help PCYC clubs across NSW rebound after COVID restrictions are lifted.

PCYC is currently losing more than $250,000 a week in revenue due to the Covid health orders which are affecting 27 clubs in Sydney, the Illawarra and the Central Coast, and many clubs in regional areas.

PCYC NSW CEO, Dominic Teakle, said this revenue funds life changing programs that reach thousands of vulnerable, disadvantaged, or at risk young people.

“The need for PCYC's programs is greater than ever. We need your generous help to ensure we can kick-start these programs as soon as the lockdown lifts,” he said.

COVID-19 has hit young people the hardest and the social cost is incalculable.

A vulnerable young person from a struggling family, an Indigenous boy or girl with few local facilities, a young person at risk of engaging in criminal activity. All are unable to access PCYC to find safety and a place to belong; to learn resilience skills from Police and PCYC mentors, to engage in physical activity, or to attend a program that helps them re-engage more positively with community.

We need your help

PCYC was established in 1937, with a mission to empower young people, get kids active in life, and reduce and prevent youth crime. Yet PCYC, a registered youth charity, receives little more than 10% of operational funding from government.

The lockdown is a significant setback, but our resilience has withstood nearly 85 years and, because of you, we will get through this, to help our young people.
