It’s back and bigger than ever before, the PCYC Gymnastics Spring Cup is returning to PCYC Cessnock for its fourth year – promising a talent-filled weekend on September 13 and 14 in the Hunter region.

More than 600 gymnasts will compete, representing 21 PCYC Clubs from across New South Wales – among them, Dubbo, Shoalhaven, Port Macquarie, Glebe, and the Southern Highlands.

PCYC Gymnastics Manager, Justin Hayes said, “This event gives PCYC athletes and Clubs a rare opportunity to compete in a large-scale, exciting competition outside of Sydney.”

“Spring Cup is also a chance for PCYC coaches to strengthen their networks and build lasting connections – it’s a celebration of gymnastics that supports our local community and makes a real contribution to the regional economy.”

Competitors range from 5 to 20 years old, and will compete in three categories, Team Gym, Artistic Gymnastics, and Free G.

14-year-old PCYC Cessnock gymnast, Bonnie McDuff is counting down the days until she can demonstrate her flips and tricks at her home Club, and vie for gold alongside some of the state’s best up and coming talents.

“It’s a really special event, it’s cool to compete against other PCYC gymnasts, and the younger ones get the chance to watch the older participants, so it’s a huge inspiration for them as they progress through the ranks.”

In 2023, with no experience, Bonnie put her hand up when a PCYC gymnastics team needed a last-minute fill in for a performance, she’s been a dedicated member ever since.

“PCYC is my second home, like a family to me – it doesn’t matter what your background is or what your abilities are, you’re always welcome here.”

While 11-year-old Lillie Anning has been training with PCYC Lake Macquarie for just a few months, she’s ready to give her all at the Spring Cup.

“I’m looking forward to showing off all my new skills that I’ve learned at PCYC, I would love to come home with gold but I’m just happy to be competing – my goal is to reach the advanced team and compete overseas, and I know my coaches will help me get there.”

Competitions play a vital role in the growth and development of young people. PCYC prides itself on supporting members as they challenge themselves, represent their communities, and build lifelong skills both on and off the mat.
