From PCYC OOSH to family kitchens: the recipe book designed by young chefs

“It’s a celebration of creativity, teamwork and healthy eating.”
Outside Of School Hours (OOSH) care at PCYC is fueled by engaging activities and nutritious food.
In the Central West towns of Mudgee and Cudgegong, what started as curious parents asking, “What are the kids cooking today?” has turned into a heartwarming project – the PCYC OOSH Recipe Book!
OOSH participants aged five to 12 have picked their favourite breakfast and afternoon tea and designed a recipe book, featuring drawings to match each dish.
From pork and apple sausage rolls, curry tuna slices, tacos, homemade chicken nuggets and roast vegetables; to sweet treats like jam dots, homemade scones, lemon custard slice, and even healthy thick shakes, this book has it all.
OOSH Coordinator, Rachel Green said, “This project is more than just recipes; it’s a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and healthy eating. Our team guided the children through the design process, cheering on their culinary adventures, and helped them turn their ideas into a book that is as fun as it is tasty.”
“We are especially grateful to the Country Universities Centre Mudgee Region, who generously donated the printing of this cookbook, helping bring our little chefs’ creations to families across the community.”
Families now get to enjoy home-cooked meals that started in PCYC kitchens. For parents like Daniel and Cheree with picky eaters at home and work commitments, the recipes are a gamechanger.
“While balancing work and life, it’s great to have quick and easy meals that my children will actually eat without a fight,” said Mum, Cheree.
PCYC is more than a club, impact starts here.
