PROGRAM INFO

PCYC NSW’s Nations of Origin is a community-driven four-day long tournament that brings together young people from across the state to represent their local Aboriginal Nations in sports such as rugby league, netball, basketball, and gymnastics. The concept of Nations of Origin emerged from statewide community consultations held during Reconciliation Week in 2012, with a focus on uniting and celebrating Australia’s rich Indigenous culture and history. Central to the program is the endorsement and involvement of local community volunteers and Elders, who support every participant and team, ensuring a deep cultural connection and the sharing of local traditional knowledge.

The program is built on four main pillars: Reconciliation, Education, Cultural Identity, and Sport. Education is a key foundation of Nations of Origin, with participants required to maintain at least 80% school attendance to be eligible. This requirement underscores the program’s commitment to academic success and personal development. Through the guidance of Elders and the inclusive nature of the program, Nations of Origin empowers young people to embrace their cultural heritage, build strong relationships, and contribute to a more unified and understanding community. It is a celebration of identity, community, and the transformative power of sport.
