PCYC PARKES BOXING

Boxing is a Legacy activity with a rich history since 1937. People from near and far will have stories about their local PCYC, and memories of participating in a PCYC Boxing Program. Some of the original PCYC clubs like City of Sydney, Blacktown, Balmain, and Glebe, have been supporting their communities and empowering young people and members with Boxing for decades. As we adjust to the new landscape post Covid-19, our approach to the boxing programs we offer has shifted to ensure that we are 100% safe and meet all of the current rules and regulations.

The Boxing programs we offer at PCYC NSW include: Boxing for Fitness, Junior Boxing, Open Beginners Classes, Open Advanced Classes and Amateur Boxing Classes.

These programs serve as pathways to development in the sport. All PCYC Boxing programs are supported by Boxing Tournaments that PCYC run in the NSW area. We have 2 experienced state-wide coordinators; Isa Aiono and Joel Keegan who promote and match-make our Boxing events. In order to ensure the sport grows it is also important that we encourage our boxing members to consider other pathways - such as referee, judges, time keeper - training that is offered by Boxing NSW and Boxing Australia.  Like most established combatant sports there are a variety of roles to ensure growth.

For those PCYC NSW amateur boxers that excel, there are opportunities (via Boxing NSW) to represent PCYC and yourself at a State level, and potentially to represent Australia at an International level!  Boxing Australia provides Elite Training Camps at the AIS Campus in Canberra.  All PCYC NSW Trainers, Boxers and Clubs must register and affiliate annually in order to compete on any PCYC NSW Boxing showcase.

PCYC NSW provides accessible boxing facilities and classes at a number of clubs and sports centres around the state. Founded in 1937, PCYC NSW is a registered charity, and rely on support to do the work we do. Learning to box at a PCYC club supports us in our mission to empower young people to empower young people to reach their potential and serve as leaders within their communities.

Why is boxing good for children? Boxing is a great way to develop confidence in kids; just like adults, kids who participate in boxing work through their fears. They learn that they are stronger than they think and can handle the pressure of competing. Kids who box also learn to be more disciplined and consistent. Active Kids Vouchers accepted!
