Volunteers rejuvenate PCYC gym space

Habitat for Humanity volunteers have dedicated a week’s worth of time to clean and paint PCYC South Sydney’s gym space – with ten volunteers each day contributing to the effort.

“Habitat for Humanity approached us a month or so ago to complete a volunteer project through NAIDOC Week in July,” said Georgia Stirton, manager at PCYC in South Sydney.

“The project was to do a deep clean and re-paint our most popular space, being the gym and boxing area. We jumped at the chance, as our staff often don’t have the time and resources to complete such large projects like this.”

Ms Stirton said she is pleased with the result because it makes the space more attractive and usable for young people in the area.

“By having a gym space that is welcoming and clean it allows our local youth to be encouraged to participate in an active and healthy lifestyle.

“By having nice surrounds within the PCYC those who use our facilities will naturally feel more empowered.

“Our gym and boxing space brings in a large number of youths, and we feel so grateful a volunteer group like Habitat for Humanity chose us to support.”

PCYC South Sydney is located on Elizabeth street in the heart of Redfern. It welcomes individuals of all cultures and offers a range of development programs to enable young people to get the best opportunities to thrive.
