WELCOME TO YOUR LOCAL CLUB PCYC MAITLAND

The formation of the Police Boys Club was an initiative of the then Commissioner of Police Mr. W J Mackay (who gained notoriety in 1932 as the arresting officer of Francis de Groot, the man who slashed the ribbon at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Harbour Bridge) and the Rotary Club of Sydney.

In 1937, the movement started with 400 boys and ran activities such as wrestling, physical culture classes, debating, and entering teams in the local Rugby League competition.

Established in Maitland since 1952, the club was originally located on what is now the carpark adjoining the Maitland Art Gallery (this site is currently free parking for the Maitland PCYC members), then moved across the road to our current site in 1967 with extensions in 2001, 2007, and 2018.

We have recently completed a redevelopment program that has expanded our gymnastic facility by 40 per cent. This will allow an increase in participation to more than 700 visits per week and includes an upgrade of equipment and services.

  • Our team members are fully qualified, experienced, and follow Gymnastics NSW code of conduct and accreditation.
  • We have a strong Competitive Gymnastics program that has allowed our gymnasts to compete at Country and State Championships.
  • The Multi-Function Hall has been given a facelift to allow better use of space for children’s activities, cater for school groups, and host organised sporting competitions.
  • We have introduced a martial arts centre and increased participation to 50 students per week. We have already secured a visit by the Japanese national Judo team for a training exhibition which occurred in August. In addition, we have introduced other martial arts disciplines including Wrestling, Aikido, and Jiu Jitsu.
  • We conduct more than 75 Safer Driver and Traffic Offender Courses over the year.
  • We provide OOSH Care services throughout the holiday periods with qualified people at affordable prices.
