PROGRAM INFO
The PCYC Stepping Up Program is designed to support young people, aged 16-21, in successfully transitioning from school to meaningful, long-term employment. This program provides tailored support, including intensive skills development, employer engagement, and individualised case management, during the critical first 12 months of employment. It specifically targets students in Years 11 and 12, particularly those facing challenges in connecting with potential employers, and aims to secure long-term career pathways.
The Stepping Up Program bridges the gap between employer expectations and the skills of young school leavers, fostering connections with local employers across NSW. The program includes a comprehensive 10-week employability skills training, career exploration, and support for job applications, resume writing, and interview workshops. Participants will also receive ongoing, one-on-one mentoring for 12 months from PCYC youth mentors, as well as life skills support and guidance for further educational pathways.
Eligibility for the program includes a desire for entry-level employment, motivation to build a long-term career, and a commitment to the 12-month program. Applicants must be either completing or have completed the HSC (Years 11-12) or possess a minimum educational qualification of Year 10 ROSA. The program encourages young people from diverse backgrounds, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, to apply. Parental or guardian consent is required for participants under the age of 18.
The program also provides access to partnered employers, career mentors, and valuable resources to help participants navigate their career journeys effectively.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Eligibility for the PCYC Stepping Up Program requires participants to be aged 16-21, with a genuine desire for entry-level employment and long-term career goals. Applicants should be currently completing or have completed Year 10 or the HSC (Years 11-12), and must demonstrate motivation, commitment, and a willingness to develop essential employability skills. Parental or guardian consent is required for participants under 18.
