PCYC Emergency Services Cadets will provide opportunities for young people to engage in activities and learn a diverse range of emergency response skills from highly experienced personnel.
The partnership with the Police and emergency services will provide a key recruiting initiative for both paid and volunteer staff across NSW.
The PCYC ESC unit will ideally represent a true cross culture of the local community it represents. The Cadet program is about providing an inclusive and friendly team building experience for all cadets and units involved. The age group is defined as 12-17 years.
What does the program look like
Initial pilot program will be run over 14 weeks on Monday evenings. Each week there will be a designated police or emergency service headquarters. During the program cadets will learn the specifics of each service and be provided with training and challenges that they would experience as part of being part of that unit.
The program will initially have two camps, including one overnight camp and a weeklong camp where they will have their new skills tested and be shown some of the key facilities and units of the NSW Police and state emergency services. Cadets will be invited back each year to gain new skills, be invited to be part of PCYC NSW’s Bluestar Leadership program and gain certificates through our the PCYC Institute (RTO).
