|Daniel took up boxing less than two years ago and is already being hailed as “Australia’s future champion” by Fairfield Cabramatta PCYC club manager, Anthony Cincotta.
Daniel is also the Advance Junior Sports Star this week, sponsored by Rebel.
His interest in the sport started when he wanted to “give it a go” as an extra form of fitness when he was playing basketball.
He instantly took to it and has a powerful hook that’s said to deliver a knockout blow to men twice his age.
Three months into his newfound sport Daniel had his first bout. He said his opponent was more experienced but he still managed to go three rounds in the fight that resulted in a split decision draw.
Daniel’s gruelling training regimen sees him in the gym every day, but he said that’s what it takes to be a champion.
“I want to be a world champion … and if you don’t think that way then you just don’t have the right attitude to win,” he said.
Boxing provides more than just physical fitness, Daniel said.
“It helps me to make the right choices,” he said, “It’s a really positive influence in my life.”
Daniel’s next stop is to qualify for the Youth Commonwealth Games in Brisbane next month.
