RED ENERGY AND SNOWY HYDRO’S COMMITMENT TO EMPOWERING YOUNG PEOPLE

On Tuesday, 20 November 2018, Snowy Hydro and its retail subsidiary, Red Energy signed a substantial landmark multi-year partnership with PCYC NSW.

This partnership will mean a significant boost to programs that will empower youth across the state, including the delivery of programs for Aboriginal young people and the provision of employment opportunities for at-risk young people.

“PCYC NSW’s mission is to keep young people active in life, regardless of where they have come from. Our work is underpinned by the strong belief that all young people deserve the opportunity to build a positive future. That is why we strive to support young people to reach their full potential through our sporting, recreation and leadership programs, as well as the partnerships that make this possible,” said Dominic Teakle, CEO, PCYC NSW.

“We are excited to announce our partnership with Red Energy and Snowy Hydro. They are in the business of powering Australia and we are grateful that they have decided to come on board to empower the future of Australia, our young people.”

Red Energy and Snowy Hydro’s commitment will involve support for PCYC NSW’s Nations of Origin event, a multifaceted Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal sporting, cultural, education and leadership program, attracting more than 1200 participants from around NSW, that culminates annually during  NAIDOC week.

They will also provide funding and support for other youth programs across the state including the Fit For Life program, which they took part in alongside Newcastle and Lake Macquarie local young people, Police, PCYC staff and NRL Legend and Red Energy Ambassador Danny Buderus, as part of the partnership announcement.  Fit For Life is an early intervention engagement program linked to the NSW Police Commissioner’s RISEUP Strategy which aims to connect disengaged young people to workplace opportunities. Both Red Energy and Snowy Hydro have committed to supporting the RISEUP initiative by offering mentoring, traineeships and apprenticeships.

Red Energy and Snowy Hydro have a long-standing commitment to investing in activities and programs that benefit the development of youth and communities, particularly in regional areas.

“’The PCYC partnership makes perfect sense to both Snowy Hydro and Red Energy as they hold values very similar to ours. We are proud to be involved with an organisation that provides disadvantaged young people with opportunities to succeed in life,” said Paul Broad, CEO & Managing Director of Snowy Hydro Limited.
