Snowy Hydro and PCYC teach youth about renewable energy

Snowy Hydro and Red Energy are longstanding partners of PCYC NSW. The partnership began in 2018 and has been extended through to 2023. This means a significant boost in funding for PCYC NSW to support young Indigenous people and provide employment opportunities for at-risk youth, as well as educating youth in renewable energy.

The Science of the Snowy Scheme is an incursion program, run by Snowy Hydro in select PCYCs during the January 2023 school holidays. The program's purpose was to introduce children to the science behind the Snowy Scheme and renewable energy through interactive tasks.

The two H2O Kids holiday programs that ran on Wednesday 18th January at PCYC Morisset and Thursday 19th January at PCYC Cessnock, were an enormous success, with the children thoroughly enjoying the hands-on activities. With tasks such as snow making, water turbine building, candle making and an engineering challenge, the incursion gave the children an opportunity to get involved in various activities that they otherwise would not have been exposed to.

Snowy Hydro together with Red Energy are also the major sponsors of the Nations of Origin event held during NAIDOC week each year.
