Food is often the first expense families have to cut when facing a pile of bills that have to be paid.
Now those struggling to put food on the table are being given a helping hand with the start of a free food shop every week at Blacktown PCYC.
The groceries are given out by Christ Mission Possible, who help 10,000 people a week through their free food shops across Sydney’s west.
More than 60 households attended the event last Thursday, which was double the number from the week before when the program started.
Support worker Michael Fallon said individuals and families were finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet.
